NASUWT (UK teaching unions) wants the Internet censored
A schoolboy broke his teachers window while filming it, and then put the film on the Internet (at Youtube). Now NASUWT, one of hte many teaching unions in the UK, are asking for legislation to control the internet.

“Unfortunately, any yob or vandal can now have their 15 minutes of fame, aided and abetted by readily accessible technology and irresponsible internet sites which enable such behaviour to be glorified. [The general secretary of the union] said the union supported a zero tolerance approach in schools to pupils who used technology to abuse and undermine teachers, and called for more rigorous legislative control of internet sites which gave them license.”
Teachers are generally known to teach false information in UK schools, specially regarding history, so it comes as no suprise that they want the Internet censored. As for the schoolkid who broke his teachers window on video: They should be glad he was stupid enough to videotape it and upload the evidence to the Internet. If every bank-robber was equally stupid then solving crimes like that would take no time at all…
As for censorship: Download and start using Tor if you have not done so already. It allows you to both read and publish on the Internet anonymously. This would not have helped the schoolkid who filmed himself, since that is a dead give-away of who you are, but it is a generally a very good thing to be able to express yourself without fear of being tortured – which is far more common than most people think in most NATO-countries.
Information wants to be free. Laws who try to stop it are not good solutions, they are the instrument of fascism.
